Essential Low Back Teacher Training
for Yoga Teachers

Dates: Oct. 15 – 20, 2010
Tuition: $495 before Sept. 15; $550 after

This training is for registered yoga teachers of any tradition who are interested in learning how to therapeutically adapt their practice to meet the needs of students with low back pain. The course will address: Principles of Yoga Therapy; Basic Anatomy of the Lower Back and Pelvis; Chakras, Breathing, Sequencing & Teaching Methodology. The format will include daily experiential practices and teaching practicum that will provide you with the skills to support your students in healing. This invaluable training will equip you to intelligently address the primary low back dysfunctions: hypo and hypermobility, S.I. destabilization, pelvic misalignment, scoliosis and lumbar disc conditions. The vital role of collaboration and referrals with other care givers, such as chiropractors, LMP's, D.O.'s, & PT's will also be discussed. This training is based on the methodology used in the Yoga for Low Back Pain Study, co-authored by Robin, and published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, in December 2005. 38 hours of Yoga Alliance credit. Bridge Program for Certified Teachers
interested in the E.Y.T. Therapist Training

Dates: Jan 21-30, 2011
Tuition: $885 before Dec. 1, afterwards, $1,000
Location: Held at The Yoga Barn in Fall City

For teachers from Hatha Yoga Traditions who have not had training in the Viniyoga Principles of Breath and Movement, Science of Sequencing, Vedic Chant and the Pancha Maya model, this 8-day course will be a requirement for those who would like to enroll in the E.Y.T. Therapist Training. The Bridge Program is designed to establish foundational teaching principles which will be utilized extensively throughout the therapist training.

The Bridge Program will be held in the residential setting of Robin's Fall City studio. Accommodations are separate, but we’ll help you find local lodging at economical prices. Space is limited for this program. The please contact Robin immediately if interested.

Essential Yoga Therapy Therapist Training
Launching in Spring 2011

Comprised of four 10-day modules, over an 18 month period, the program will be held outside Seattle, Washington at a residential retreat center. The completed program will offer close to 1,000 hours, including mentorship and internship options. Pre-requisites for the program include a RYT - 500 plus a minimum of 2 years teaching experience or equivalent. A minimum of 100 hrs. of Anatomy and Physiology is also required. A & P from massage schools or equivalent applies. For applicants with no formal training in Viniyoga, there will be a Bridge Program available to develop the theory, skills and methodological understanding necessary to enter the E.Y.T. training.

Tuition for E.Y.T. Therapist Training $7,500. Payment plans available. Accommodations not included.

The Yoga Barn 500 hr. Yoga Alliance Registered Teacher Training

The Yoga Barn teacher training is an in-depth training in the viniyoga tradition with core alignment principles from Iyengar yoga woven in as is appropriate. This training is registered with the Yoga Alliance at the 500 hour level and is considered by AVI to be a fundamental training for AVI's Yoga Therapist Training. Robin Rothenberg, Certified Yoga Therapist and primary instructor for this training is herself an AVI graduate (1999, Therapist Training, 2002), and a Certified Iyengar Teacher (1992). The Yoga Barn Advanced Studies Program or comparable program is a pre-requisite to The Yoga Barn Teacher Training.

This training is designed not only to prepare one to teach all levels of asana, but to delve deeply into the practices of pranayama, chanting, meditation, personal ritual and to cultivate a deep appreciation for the philosophical basis for yoga, Patanjali's, Yoga Sutras. All student-teachers are required to develop a personal practice incorporating the various tools of yoga. Robin will meet with you privately to help cultivate your personal practice and to support you in the training process. Mentors from the Yoga Barn staff may also be assigned to assist those in need of additional support. This is an intensive and intimate training, limited to 15, so that in traditional viniyoga style, each student-teacher is encouraged to develop in the way most appropriate to him/her.

The Anatomy and Physiology portions will be taught by Dr. Jill Massengill, D.C., and Dr. Lynn Hughes, D.O., psychiatrist. In addition to their vast experience in the medical field, both of these women are seasoned teachers in the viniyoga lineage.

The next 500 hr. Teacher Training is scheduled beginning with Advanced Studies in March 2011 through Oct. 2012. Applicants interested can apply through Essential Yoga Therapy, info@essentialyogatherapy.com .

THE ADVANCED STUDIES PROGRAM

The Advanced Studies Program is intended as an educative and practical study for any student or teacher of yoga who would like to develop a deeper understanding of the philosophy and practice of yoga beyond the basic asana class. The program is designed to direct each individual toward developing his or her own practice, facilitating growth on all levels: physical, mental and spiritual. Teachings will be based on Patanjali's Yoga Sutra, and embodied through asana, pranayama, meditation, chanting, and personal inquiry. Teachers and students of all traditions will find this program an engaging, challenging transformative process.

This program is a pre-requisite for The Yoga Barn Teacher Training (the Teacher Training will not be offered in 2010). This series are also for teachers and students who want to intensify their practice and develop a deeper understanding of yoga and themselves. This program will count towards Yoga Alliance certification hours for those working towards their 500 hour certificate. Kriya Yoga - Sutra 2-1; tapas, svadhyaya and isvarapranidhana – How do we actually take action to transform our lives?
 
Astanga Yoga – How does Patanjali define each of the 8-limbs and how does study and practice of them bring us new awareness and understanding of ourselves?
 
Pancha Maya – The 5 Levels of Being; Each of the five has five; like a labyrinth we circle towards our own Spiritual center
 
Chakras – The Human Energy system – How do we unblock the flow of prana so we feel alive and balanced within our bodies, minds and hearts?
 
9-Day Intensive – TAPAS - Looking deep and honestly into the well of the kleshas, the ways in which we constrict and create dukha or suffering, for ourselves. These culminating 9-days are a detoxification process which help us purify through strong asana, contemplative practice, journaling, sutra study and mantra japa (chanting).
