The Yoga Therapy Program at The Yoga Barn is one of a kind, offering group classes, therapeutic workshops, and private yoga therapy sessions. With four Certified Yoga Therapists, a chiropractor and a physician on staff for consultation, The Yoga Barn's reputation as a center for healing is uniquely credible. We network with local orthopedists, rheumatologists, pain specialists, acupuncturists, chiropractors and licensed massage therapists. Many of our clientele come to us by referral from their physicians. We are recognized for our knowledgeable and experienced staff, adherence to safety and capacity to adapt yoga practice for each individual's needs.

Our weekly classes are specially adapted for people who need a little slower pace and extra TLC. These classes are beneficial for people living with auto-immune disorders such as: fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, MS, rheumatoid arthritis, cancer and HIV. They are also supportive for those recovering from structural challenges such as chronic back and neck pain, joint restrictions and scoliosis. The group atmosphere is encouraging, as students are taught deep relaxation techniques, breathing to reduce stress, and simple movements to alleviate pain and tension. Over this past year, The Yoga Barn has collaborated with Cancer Lifeline, a non-profit organization designed to support patients and families living with cancer. Therapeutic classes at YB are available to CLL clients, either for free or at a reduced rate. For more information contact Cancer Lifeline at: www.cancerlifeline.org

Individual sessions are an opportunity to work one on one with a Certified Therapist. In the course of a session a sequence will be prescribed incorporating breath, movement and simple meditation, as your situation warrants. Sequences are written out by the therapist, so you leave with your own personal yoga practice in hand, specifically oriented to support your healing process. Each therapist will discuss your recommended treatment protocol at the initial consultation.

Please check our schedule for exact times and locations of Therapeutic Classes. Each class is an hour and fifteen minutes to an hour and half long. Therapeutic passes are available. Instructors prefer to speak with new therapeutic students prior to registering. Please contact us for a phone consultation if you feel Therapeutic Yoga could be right for you: 425.427.0038.

Robin Rothenberg, CYT and Director of The Yoga Barn has been teaching yoga for nearly 20 years. Certified in both the Iyengar and Viniyoga traditions, she received her Yoga Therapy Certification from AVI (American Viniyoga Institute), in 2000. She is considered to be one of the most highly skilled yoga therapists in the area, working with groups, individually, and training teachers and the 500 hour level.

Over the past six years, Robin has been working closely with researchers from the Group Health Center for Health Studies on an NIH (National Institute of Health) funded study examining the effectiveness of yoga therapy for the treatment of lower back pain. Robin co-authored and taught the protocol for those classes. The results of the first phase of the study were extremely promising and were published in The Annals of Internal Medicine, Dec. 2007. NIH has now funded a second, larger scale grant to test the protocol, and Robin continues to assist the researchers and will be in charge of staff training. Robin is on the Advisory Board for the International Association of Yoga Therapists and will be presenting on Yoga Therapy for Low Back Pain, at the first IAYT Symposium in January 2007.

Private therapy sessions also available, please address inquiries to Robin,
