YelapaYelapa Yoga Retreat: A Time for Reflection
April 25 - May 2, 2009

with Robin Rothenberg,
AVI Certified Yoga Therapist and
Taran Collis,
Registered Yoga Alliance Instructor

Upon flying into Mexico, our wonderful hostess for our Yelapa excusion will meet us in Puerto Vallarta.

Enter a small coastal fishing village south of Puerto Vallarta Mexico that can be reached only by boat. Vacation in a village that offers yoga mixed with beach, sun, river, waterfall hike and lots to explore. There are no roads leading into Yelapa. Traveling by foot through the village, beaches and paths up river offer the rare experience of a vacation without cars. Watch in awe as dolphins swim the bay, enjoy the colors and sounds of the over 350 tropical birds of the area, stop as whales spout off the coast. Sunset Magazine (Jan. 2008) listed Yelapa as the #1 'must see off the beaten track' vacation spot'.

YelapaImagine practicing yoga and having time for yourself to reflect on your life here in this mini-paradise. A world away from tourist crowds, share the riches of nature, beach, sun, walking, hiking, great food and the cultural experience of meeting and mingling with the local villagers.

For many of us, 2009 begins with a call to reassess our lives and our priorities. On retreat with Robin and Taran, you will be supported to look honestly at the path you're on, and using the gifts of yoga as a mirror, to see more clearly into your heart's desire. The spacious beauty of Yelapa combined with the loving sangha of friends create the perfect duet for personal exploration and inward reflection.

Simple Abundance
Drinking from the Well of the Soul
March 15 - 22, 2008

A Viniyoga Retreat with
Robin Rothenberg,
AVI Certified Yoga Therapist
and
Julie Gayer, AVI Certified Yoga Therapist

Many of us long for simplicity, where in stillness and silence we can hear the call of our soul. On retreat, at the lush and beautiful Guaria de Osa, we'll be surrounded by exotic scents, flora and fauna beyond imagination and the steady rhythm of the ocean calling us to return to our true nature. Julie and Robin weave the wisdom teachings of yoga and Buddhism through practices using asana, pranayama, chanting, and meditative movement. They offer you an opportunity to plunge in to the soul of your being, by learning how to simply "Be", embraced by the warmth of the tropics, sangha (spiritual community), and the abundant, inextinguishable light of your own heart center.

Robin and Julie are skillful and seasoned instructors, capable of adapting for all body types and levels of experience. Their extensive training in yoga therapy makes their classes a safe space to practice even for those with physical or physiologic limitations. Using the Viniyoga model of adaptive, breath-centred practice, these two women focus on the integration of body, mind and spirit, working from the inside out, to facilitate their students awakening to the Joy of Being.

Morning asana/pranayama practice will begin each day. After a nourishing breakfast we'll be enjoying one of the many planned excursions: hiking the St. Joseph's Ridge Trail, swimming under the waterfalls of the Rio Claro River, taking a guided Ethnobotanical tour, or simply relaxing on the ocean's shore, riding the waves or swinging in a hammock with a good book. The afternoon/ evening yoga sessions will be comprised of discussion based on The Yoga Sutras, Meditative Movement and Inquiry, chanting and silent meditation.

Yoga Retreat in Mexico: The Dance of Life

About Mar De Jade
Mar De JadeLocated in a setting of great natural beauty and serenity, Mar de Jade has as its backdrop a lush tropical mountain forest alive with birds, iguanas, and tropical vegetation, and has nearby groves of coconut, mango and banana trees. Directly in front of Mar de Jade is Chacala's half mile stretch of pristine, sandy beach and warm ocean water that deepens gradually.

Our Mission
Mar de Jade was created in 1983 in the spirit of active community service, of gratitude for the natural environment, and of the cultivation of genuine friendships.

We have an excellent relationship with our neighbors here in fishing village as well as in nearby farming towns. A percentage of Mar de Jade's income and staff time is dedicated to supporting projects we have founded: a primary-care community clinic, a legal-aid project, a scholarship fund for young people, and an emergency fund for families in distress.

We also nurture a spirit of camaraderie and exchange among guests, staff, and local folks in many of our activities, from eating together to relaxing in the jacuzzi and celebrating traditional holidays.

ON RETREAT
Mar De JadeRobin and Julie invite you to join them on a journey of self discovery!  Using asana, pranayama, meditation & self inquiry as a foundation, we'll introduce Guided Meditative Movement to open your relationship to your body in new, unexplored ways.  Practicing improvisation/free movement linked with yoga practice gives another reflection or way of perceiving yourself. As you engage in a conversation, a dialogue with your body, you’ll learn to listen deeply. Shifting from meditation to movement to meditation again helps to break free of conditioned patterns of mind, moving beyond form into flow. This retreat, like the ocean breeze is a call to freshness; a remembering of the child-like state of present mind, encouraging your joyful spirit to shine.  Come play with us!

"The Atitlan Retreat with Robin was a life altering event for me. The environment and the group of soulful, beautiful women were a perfect combination to remove day to day life distraction and open to Robin's gift - treating us to the magic and realities of the teachings. I know without a doubt that I am a better partner, mom, daughter, student, teacher, and human being as a result. I would recommend this experience to anyone unafraid to learn more about themselves." - Janelle

"The chanting, breathing and asanas, the gentleness of the practice, has encouraged me to continue practicing on my own. It will be invaluable to me with respect to my balance and overall tranquility." - Cecilia

"This was the most relaxing, restful vacation I have ever had! Every day I could feel my body and mind release tension as I dropped into deeper and deeper levels of peace and inner stillness. It was magical!" - Zita

Yelapa 2009
Mexico 2007
Guatamala 2006

"Yoga in Yelapa 2009 was magic!
Yelapa is a small village in a truly beautiful setting. 2009 was my first adventure in joining a group of "strangers." Before we left Yelapa, these strangers had become friends. We constantly laughed together, had wonderful, healthy meals, and enjoyed our quieting and enriching yoga experience together in Judith and Cody's amazing studio and home.
I returned to Seattle enriched with laughter, friendship and inner peace."
